In a recent article on <a href=\"http:\/\/insidebitcoins.com\/news\/jamie-dimons-bitcoin-rejection-ignored-by-jpmorgan-alumni\/30728\" target=\"_blank\">InsideBitcoins.com<\/a> he was quoted:<\/p>\n<p><b>What does Jamie Dimon think of bitcoin?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>JPMorgan Chase\u2019s Jamie Dimon has actually commented on bitcoin more than once, but he\u2019s never had many positive things to say about the long-term prospects of the financial innovation created by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Satoshi_Nakamoto\">Satoshi Nakamoto<\/a>. During the Institute of International Finance annual membership meeting in late 2014, Dimon had this to say about bitcoin\u2019s chances of success:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe issue I have with Bitcoin is that it\u2019s not about the technology, it\u2019s about governments. When people form nations, one of the first things they do is form a currency. Are regulators and governments really going to foster Bitcoin over a long period of time? I think the answer is no.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Back in 2013 JP Morgan Chase actually filed a patent for processing Internet payments using the electronic funds transfer network.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/letstalkbitcoin.com\/jpmorgan-chase-building-bitcoin-killer\/\" target=\"_blank\">Let&#8217;s Talk Bitcoin <\/a>reported:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Source: Internet Archive, <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/details\/0522_Using_the_Bank_18_01_04_25\">&#8220;Using the Bank&#8221; (1947)<\/a><\/em>[\/caption] Thanksgiving day, while many of us were eating turkey, The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) published JPMorgan Chase\u2019s (Chase) patent application <a href=\"http:\/\/appft.uspto.gov\/netacgi\/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&amp;Sect2=HITOFF&amp;p=1&amp;u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsearch-bool.html&amp;r=1&amp;f=G&amp;l=50&amp;co1=AND&amp;d=PG01&amp;s1=20130317984&amp;OS=20130317984&amp;RS=20130317984\">20130317984<\/a>, \u201cMethod and system for processing internet payments using the electronic funds transfer network.\u201d \u00a0The application was filed with the USPTO on August 5th, 2013. Without mentioning Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies at all for that matter, Chase appears to be building a competing centralized network to Bitcoin. \u00a0The application defines the problems that legacy banking has with online transactions and then provides a detailed explanation how Chase will address these problems with this new technology. \u00a0The application states that Chase\u2019s technology is a \u201cnew paradigm.\u201d \u00a0Moreover that it permits the creation of \u201cvirtual cash\u201d (also referred to as \u201cweb cash&#8221;) with a \u201creal-time digital exchange of value.\u201d I will start with extracting the problems that Chase identified which are strikingly similar to those addressed by the revolutionary Bitcoin payment protocol. \u00a0 Bitcoin has been singled out as a game changer when it comes to the legacy cost of wire transfers:<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>On March 23, 2015 JP Morgan Chase registered the domains JPMCoin.com, JPMorganCoin.com and BitcoinChase.com.
