To the people giving new gtlds til the end of the year – Where do you think they are going ?

June 5, 2015 By Raymond Hackney

There was a comment posted a couple days ago here, which is similar to one I have read on many blogs and forums. Dot Com investors who are deeming the new gtld program a failure and then giving them til the end of the year.

Til the end of the year for what ? To be removed from the root ? So Coffee.Club will just disappear ? No that is wrong and for what it is worth, ICANN is already gearing up for the second round.

From the National Law Review:

Despite this already exponential expansion of the Internet domain name space, ICANN is gearing up already for a second round of new gTLD applications. The first step in that process is a series of reviews ICANN and the community will undertake throughout the next two years or so to study the new gTLD program as implemented so far. In conjunction with other efforts within ICANN to review this ongoing round of new gTLD delegation, the ICANN Board of Directors (Board) recently passed a resolution involving planning for future new gTLD application rounds. Our new gTLD team has examined closely this resolution and other related developments, which are relevant to registry operators, brand owners and potential future new gTLD applicants alike.

Look love them, hate them, or be neutral, but throwing around comments that they are not going to be here is just lazy or wishful thinking. Whether the new gtlds are good for speculation is a completely different topic.

All the previous extensions everyone thought sucked, .mobi, .name, .biz are all still here with registrations and deletions everyday..
