How Many Extensions Should A Presidential Candidate Register ?

May 5, 2015 By Raymond Hackney

Tech Cabal published an article on one reason why you should own your own domain name. The article is taking a look at Presidential hopeful Carly Fiorina, the former CEO of Hewlett-Packard.

Now to be fair Carly Fiorina does own her name in .com and it redirects to CarlyForPresident.com. The domain she did not register which is the focus of the article, CarlyFiorina.org. The registrant posted: Carly Fiorina failed to register this domain. So I’m using it to tell you how many people she laid off at Hewlett-Packard. 30,000 sad faces follow. When you scroll to the bottom it says:

That’s 30,000 people she laid off. People with families. And what does she say she would have done differently?

“I would have done them all faster.”
—Carly Fiorina

CarlyFiorina.net appears to be registered but with just a holding page. In a world of so many new extensions how many should a presidential hopeful register ? She probably needs the .sucks but as I have written about before that is hard to protect against. Someone could easily register CarlyFiorinaReally.sucks, to place greater emphasis.

It will be interesting to see how politicians adapt to the new challenges of the name game.
