Guidelines for Writing Quality Content

April 29, 2014 By DomainCrunch

Trying to keep up with Google’s content-related algorithm changes may be like traveling across the globe in ten days, however, it is imperative that you do, otherwise you won’t make it around the block. Google has control over search engine rankings and without fresh quality content, your readers may never see what you have written. Whether you are a niche writer or an eclectic one you have to follow some basic guidelines to get your content out there. Some of these may appear obvious but they do bear repeating.

Topical Content
In order to appeal to readers (which you want) and to appeal to search engines (which you need), you must write quality content that is as original in topic and content as is possible. Trending topics are a good start if you can discover an angle that no one is writing about yet. New and interesting content is what your readers want. If you are a niche writer and your topic is “Urban Legends”, then you will need to write new and exciting content about that subject. The actual urban legends may not change much, but your approach to the subject should be original. In addition, you could try and relate your niche content to a trending subject.

SEO
Search engine optimization is the road to top rankings. Search engines use keywords to find your content. Use keywords that are relevant to your content and helpful to search engines. If you have trouble finding relevant keywords you can use Google’s keyword tool. Keyword placement is important, also. Keyword stuffing makes your content look over promotional. Place your keywords at the beginning of paragraphs and in subheadings.

Formatting
Make sure that your content is formatted in a way that your readers find attractive. Paragraphs should be no more than four to five lines and you should make use of subheadings and bullet points. This will offer a visual pause since most people don’t read every word. Ensure that your readers can understand your meaning by reading the subheadings, number points and bullet points alone.

Editing
Read through your content at least once to ensure that it makes sense. Check for typographical and grammatical errors and always use spell check.

I’m writing from personal experience, I’ve seen my sites rank higher on Google just from relevant content, don’t really do much back linking or any other SEO except for adding content. As a site owner and operator that’s all really that I can do, and it works. Content is KING.
